Sibos 2009, day four. It's time for a more direct approach!
Although not quite the last day of Sibos, today has been a round of goodbyes, au revoirs and auf wiedersehens. “See you in Amsterdam in 2010, and by the way, I've got some problems, could someone please fix them?”
Has Sibos 2009 been of value? The answer is a resounding “yes!” Will it look the same next year? The answer has to be no, it won’t. Although payments and securities processing reside in a similar technical environment, there is little to make them common bed fellows when it comes to debating future business trends. So perhaps we will see a more product-led "solve my pain" approach when we meet in 2010?
Indeed, with both corporate and banking institutions having to make hard and difficult decisions about their future infrastructure, it looks clear that there will be less debate but more action. Talking to a German CTO, for example, he said: "I was beaten by the vendors’ exhibition stand chess game, but it was no match for me when it came to kick boxing."
This hard but direct approach is set to be with us for a good few years yet.
