One year on from the collapse of Lehman Brothers and related financial markets meltdown, the Greentarget team once again finds itself rubbing shoulders with the global banking and infrastructure vendor payments and processing community at Sibos 2009 in Hong Kong.  There may be a typhoon blowing in Hong Kong harbor, but the atmosphere inside this year’s event is much quieter.  But it is clear that the debate itself is more important than ever.

The new banking landscape has to work with the demands of clients for lower costs, improved risk management and the flexibility to service client structures that are changing very quickly.  Though the SEPA and Faster Payment discussion continues apace, the new watchword is customer centricity.  You may ask yourselves why it takes a crisis to make banks understand the old adage of "customer is king", but nevertheless, the 2009/10 landscape has been marked by a marked shift towards building service structures that help clients operate more efficiently and more effectively.

Over the next few days we will be providing a sharp insight into Sibos 2009 - highlighting some of the more systemic advances that are being showcased - weather permitting, of course.  I’m off to find out what a Typhoon Level 3 really means!
